Joseph Strawder Fillyaw was born Feb. 21, 1844 and died March 24, 1926. He enlisted on May 13, 1862 to the Co. B. 10th Regiment-Worth County, Georgia. Slightly wounded at Spotsylvania Courthouse, Va on May 14, 1864. Captured near Farmville, Va. on April 6, 1865 and was in Northern prison at the close of the war.
The following physical description was given in his NARA file - complexion-light; hair-brown; eyes - blue; height - 5'11 1/2"; age - 18. John James fillyaw, Thomas C. Fillyaw and Joseph Strawder Fillyaw all enlisted on the same day.
When he returned to Georgia he married Mary Elizabeth Britt on May 10, 1866. She was the daughter of Henry Britt and Minervia Herring. Minerva was born Sept. 27, 1837 and died Nov. 24, 1922.
Joseph was ordained a minister at Harmony Missionary Baptist Church in Turner County, Ga on Oct. 16, 1892. Ordination service was conducted by Rev. Issac Hobby and Rev. J.M. Champion. He was pastor of Red Oak Baptist Church about 1903 - 1907. He served several other churches.
Grave markers of Joseph Strawder and Mary Elizabeth Fillyaw are located at Red Oak Cemetery in Worth County, Georgia.

Joseph Strawder Fillyaw was the son of Josiah C. Fillyaw and Ann Register. Josiah and Ann are buried one row behind T. T. Fillyaw and family in Red Oak Cemetary. There is another grave next to Josiah Fillyaw that of Susan Cummings (his first wife) born in 1805 and died 1890. Rev. Joseph Strawder Fillyaw is burried one rwo behind his father Josiah.

In the Name of God, Amen.
I Stephen Fillyaw of the State of North Carolina and County of New Hanover, being of sound & perfect mind & memory, blessings be God, do this twenty second day of December in the year of our Lord One thousand Eight hundred & thirty seven, make & publish, this my last Will & Testament, setting aside all others.
I do give & bequeath my property in the following manner, viz.,
I give & bequeath to my Grandson, John David Fillyaw, the Land whereon my son John Fillyaw now lives, situated on the south sides of Lewis Creek, beginning at the Main Road, where the creek now crosses & running up the various courses of said creek, to the mouth of Cooks Branch, thence up the said branch, to the Rolling Road, thence on in a south course across a Bay Pond to my old corner, & on the various courses of the line eastwardly, to the said Main Road, thence up said road to the beginning..
To my son Josiah C. Fillyaw, I give & bequeath a tract on ___ of land lying & being in the county above mentioned, on both sides of Lewis Creek, adjoining the Main Road on the west side of said road, to him & his heirs forever.
The land whereon I now live, including the Mill, I give & bequeath to my son James Fillyaw (after the death of my wife Susan) to him & his heirs forever, also one horse & horse cart, one cow & calf, one fether bed & furniture, also, all my shop tools.
To my wife Susan I also give all my household & kitchen furniture & plantation tools, & stock of all kinds during her natural life, after her death to be equally divided between my daughters Mary Smith, Susan Simmons, and Sarah Driver's two children, the said two children to draw only their mother's share.
My two sons, John & James Fillyaw I appoint as managers to my estate, to dispose of it as it is described within.
